Fickett Out of UFC 73 Bout; Replacement Not Yet Announced

Late last night news broke that Drew Fickett is injured and will be unable to compete next weekend at UFC 73 against Chris Lytle. Fickett was called in to replace Jeff Joslin over a month ago but an undisclosed but recurring injury has now knocked Fickett off the “Stacked” card.

No replacement has been announced.

Lytle is just 2-4 in the UFC although he has faced some tough competition in the octagon. Among his most recent opponents are welterweight contender Karo Parisyan and current welterweight champion Matt Serra. Lytle was defeated on the finale of season 4 of The Ultimate Fighter by split decision and hasn’t rebounded from the loss yet. Lytle was defeated in his last UFC fight against former welterweight champion Matt Hughes at UFC 68 by unanimous decision.

At this late stage two scenarios could possibly play out. If the UFC is able to find a replacement before the weekend the fight should go on as planned. If a replacement is not found soon the fight may ultimately be scrapped as there is just over a week before UFC 73 for a replacement to be prepared for a fight.

Stay tuned to for word on a potential replacement.
