According to a report from Brazilian MMA website TATAME Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will not miss his UFC 76 fight this September. Here is a rough translation of the report:
“I believe next week we will sign this fight for September” said Shogun.
When asked about the rumors of an injury delaying his debut Shogun calmed down fans, “I injured my knee training. I went to the doctor but it was not a big deal. He told me I can train normally.”
Earlier today a report from GracieFighter stated that “Shogun” may ultimately miss his UFC debut this September due to a knee injury. GracieFighter has too confirmed that the knee injury is not as serious as originally thought and Rua will be able to participate in training and fighting barring an injury in the nearly 3 months until he will make his UFC debut.
Rua is 16-2 in his mixed martial arts career but has yet to fight on the biggest stage in the MMA world, the UFC. Rua has won 4 straight in PRIDE over Cyrille Diabate, Kevin Randleman, Kazuhiro Nakamura, and Alistair Overeem in a span of just 6 months. By the time his September fight rolls around it will have been nearly 7 months between MMA fights.
