The UFC 71 card has become a lot clearer this week with Tito Ortiz rumored to take on Rashad Evans and Chuck Liddell set to face Quinton “Rampage” Jackson . Today we learned that Ivan Salaverry (12-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) will face Terry Martin (15-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) in a middleweight bout according to MMAWeekly.com.
Salaverry last fought in the UFC in August of 2005 losing to Nate Marqurdt. He then went to the World Fighting Alliance and won his only fight in the organization in July 2006 before the organization and Salaverry’s contract were purchased by the UFC. His other UFC matches include 3 wins against Joe Riggs, Tony Fryklund, and Andrei Semenov as well as a loss to Matt Lindland.
Martin won his last UFC fight at UFC 67 against TUF 4 contestant Jorge Rivera with an impressive KO 14 seconds into the first round. He lost his other UFC fights to James Irvin via KO and James Irvin via TKO.
Bothfighters have something to prove coming into this fight. Salaverry is a veteran who left the UFC only to be back in the octagon one fight later while Martin has impressed the UFC with his knock out power. This fight should be a good one to watch assuming it’s on the PPV and it could be an explosive bout.
