Undefeated mixed martial artist and England native Terry Etim will face 14-4 Gleison Tibau at UFC 75 in London on September 8th according to published reports. The fight will likely be on the undercard for the event and may not be broadcast.
The undefeated Etim is 9-0 and is coming off of an impressive first round victory over Matt Grice at UFC 70 which was also held in his native England. Both fighters came into the event undefeated but Grice came out victorious after locking in a guillotine choke late in the first round. The addition of Etim to the fight card continues the UFC’s trend of having local fighters compete at its international events. Etim is sure to have the crowd behind him not only because he is from the country but also due to his exciting first round victory in his UFC debut.
Tibau has posted victories in both of his UFC fights, both of which took place this year. He made his debut at UFC 68 in March winning a unanimous decision over Jason Dent. His next fight came outside of the UFC when he defeated Antonio Fernandes by TKO in the first round at a Nordest Combat Championship event in May. He returned to the UFC last month at UFC Fight Night 10, defeating Jeff Cox with an arm triangle choke less than two minutes into round one.
This fight is intriguing and is a solid addition to the event’s undercard. Etim’s quick victory and undefeated MMA record are impressive and will be put to the test against the more experienced Tibau who has a 3 fight win streak coming into this fight. Fans should get to the arena early for this lightweight bout as I think it could be a great bout between two fighters who will be looking to leave an impression with fans and rise in the lightweight division.
