UFC welterweight Nick Diaz is apparently going to remain retired unless he is granted a rematch with UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre or a shot at UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. UFC Tonight’s Ariel Helwani reported the update earlier tonight.
“Right now Nick is retired, unless he gets rematch with Georges St-Pierre or the big Anderson Silva fight. Apparently if he doesn’t get those, he’s going to remain retired.”
Diaz lost to St-Pierre earlier this month at UFC 158 and announced his retirement following the bout but then quickly retracted that statement to challenge St-Pierre to a rematch. The California-native’s lawyer has filed a complaint over an issue with the Quebec Athletic Commission’s conduct regarding their UFC 158 weigh-ins. Diaz’s lawyer is attempting to have the bout’s result thrown out and a rematch created using the court system.
For now, Nick Diaz seems to be content with waiting for a rematch with St-Pierre or a fight with with Silva, but the fighter has said he would retire after other bouts in career as well before returning.
