UFC 161 will see Canada’s first UFC women’s division fight as Alexis Davis (pictured) will meet Rosi Sexton. The women’s bantamweight tilt will likely be part of the evening’s preliminary card. UFC officials announced the move earlier today on twitter.
Canada’s Alexis Davis is a Strikeforce and Invicta FC veteran who has won four of her last five, the lone loss being a razor thin majority decision loss to Sarah Kaufman. The Cesar Gracie product holds notable wins over Shayna Baszler and Julie Kedzie as well.
Her opponent, Rosi Sexton, is a veteran of the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship and Bellator. Sexton has won three straight fights since losing to Bellator women’s strawweight champion Zoila Frausto Gurgel at Bellator 23.
UFC 161 takes place June 15 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The fight card will be headlined by the interim bantamweight title fight between champion Renan Baráo and Eddie Wineland. The card will be co-headlined by a pair of light heavyweight battles pitting Rashad Evans vs. Dan Henderson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua 2.
