ONE FC’s Eddie Ng will face off with Arnaud LePont at ONE FC 8 on April 5. The up-and-coming fighter recently spoke with MMAFrenzy’s Steve Barnes about a variety of topics including his upcoming bout, his surgically repaired shoulder, his special diet, and more.
Be sure to tune into the ONE FC 8 Online PPV this morning as Ng fights on the main card.
1) What are your thoughts about upcoming opponent Arnaud LePont? Anything stand out when you watch him?
I have seen Arnaud fight comfortably standing with opponents on his feet as well as fighting comfortably exchanging positions and submissions on the ground. He is an all rounded fighter, however one thing that stands out is his “never say die” attitude. He is someone that can capitalise on any opportunity to finish an opponent, from the 1st minute of the fight to the last minute and has proved that before in his past fights.
2) How is the shoulder feeling? Feeling any rust after the layoff?
My shoulder feels good as new! Before I decided to return back to competition I spent a substantial amount of time just training, my coaches know what I am capable of and when I was performing back at my best they gave me a thumbs up and told me that I should look to fight again soon.
Ring rust a a legitimate concern to fighters that have been inactive for a long period of time. If I was a fighter that competed every few months, 3-4 times a year, I think for sure that ring rust would be a factor. However, in the past I have gotten used to competing with up to a year break in between fights. I don’t feel like ring rust will be of any concern come April 5th because a year break has been somewhat normal for me.
3) This will be your third fight with ONE FC, how long is your deal with the promotion?
I am proud to say that I have an exclusive multi-fight contract with ONE Fighting Championship.
4) How long have you been with Evolve MMA now?
I have been at Evolve MMA and in Singapore for almost 2 years now, its actually scary how much time has went by! I grew up in the UK and it only seems like last week since I packed my bags and moved to Singapore when in actual fact I moved here at the end of July 2011!
5) What is your favorite part of your training day?
I have a huge passion for Martial Arts, Martial Arts have changed my life and have been part of me for so long now. My favourite part of my training day is actually every minute that I am training with the World Champions at Evolve MMA. I love learning, I love the challenge, I love personal growth, I love how Martial Arts have enriched my life!
