The Singapore Indoor Arena played home to One FC 8: Kings & Champions, which housed the semifinals of the promotion’s bantamweight grand prix. The finals are now set as Masakatsu Ueda and Kevin Belingon are now set to meet.
Ueda and Jens Pulver got their tournament semifinal bout off to a slow start. After two minutes of no discernibly meaningful offense, a straight right from the former UFC champion put Ueda on his saddle. As Pulver rushed in, he found the former Shooto titleholder taking his back, where he would drag the fight to the ground and maintain top position for the majority of the round. It was “Lil’ Evil” that would initiate the grappling in the second stanza, taking the back of Ueda, who used an odd-angle straight armbar to regain top position. The submission specialist would punch his ticket to the finals by sinking a deep brabo choke, bringing things to an end at 3:52.
Kevin Belingon ran through Thanh Vu in their semifinal tournament bout, after posting a dominant first period, “The Silencer” came out guns blazing in the second round. An early head kick from the Filipino put Vu in dire straights. The ensuing storm of punches would leave him on his knees, attempting to take referee Yuji Shamada down to the ground at the one minute mark.
