Waterson Submits Penne to Earn the Atomweight Crown

Jessica Penne and Michelle  Waterson would engage in one of the best grappling battles you will ever see tonight in Kansas City, Missouri. Penne would lose her crown tonight to “The Karate Hottie” in a four round battle.

Penne appeared to seize control in the third round as she dominated Waterson on the ground. Penne would lock up a deep arm bar attempt on Waterson that she appeared on the brink of tapping to before she miraculously escaped the submission.

In the fourth round, Penne and Waterson would again go to war. A takedown attempt by Penne would lead to the beginning of the end tonight, as Waterson briefly took her back. Penne would brilliantly swim out and appear to be on her way to reversing and passing Waterson’s guard but the Team Jackson slipped her leg over the face of Penne and caught the arm.

From there it was all academic as Penne was forced to tap at 2:31 of the fourth frame. The loss is the first for Penne at her natural atomweight weight class, having lost to Zoila Frausto Gurgel at strawweight. Waterson improved to 11-3 with the victory and has now won five straight fights
