UFC President Dana White’s frustration with the Swedish MMA Federation was still evident after UFC on FUEL TV 9. While White was annoyed after the Federation, after they refused to allow Alexander Gustafsson to fight Gegard Mousasi, the UFC president was adamant about returning to the country for future cards.
“The commission did a horrible job with this fight. Gegard knew his knee injured before the fight. Thank god he didn’t see the doctors here. I don’t want to smash the commission, but they’re very inexperienced. This isn’t Las Vegas or New Jersey or California where lots of fights happen. They did a great job the first time we came here, so hopefully they’ll get back on the wagon.”
UFC officials have often said that Stockholm is considered one of their flagship cities and that the promotion will continue to do business there. While White’s frustration was echoed by many fans, it is hard to argue that other commissions would not have made the same call due to where the cut was. The UFC is planning a return to Sweden around the same time in 2014.
