UFC light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson is looking to get back into action as soon as possible. Gustafsson was cut during his final week of preparation for his UFC on FUEL TV 9 fight card and will be cleared in the next two weeks. Gustafsson’s manager spoke with UFC Tonight’s Ariel Helwani about what the light heavyweight is looking to do next.
“His manager Manos Terzitane said that Alex is a week or two away from getting cleared. They’ve told the UFC that if someone gets injured at 205, they want to step in on short notice. They want to fight for the title – the winner of Jon Jones vs. Chael Sonnen on April 27. If they can’t get the title fight, they want to fight Lyoto Machida next. Their ultimate goal would be against Machida – the number-one contender fight – and then they want to fight for the title.”
Alexander Gustafsson has not lost in the UFC since a 2010 loss to Phil Davis. Gustafsson has won six straight fights since that fight, and has been mentioned in the title picture quite a bit the last few years.
