UFC lightweight Nate Diaz is looking to move to welterweight following his UFC on Fox 7 bout with Josh Thomson. Diaz simply believes the division will not hold any new challenges for him, especially if teammate Gilbert Melendez defeats Benson Henderson. Diaz told MMAJunkie about the possible move at UFC on Fox 7 media date.
“I don’t think there’s anything for me at the lightweight division,” he told MMAjunkie. “I already beat everyone at lightweight or I fought everyone already. The only person who beat me was Ben, and Gil’s going to handle him Saturday. I’m going to sit around and fight the guys all over again? Boring. There’s no motivation in that. I’d rather fight someone new.”
Diaz has posted a 9-4 record in the UFC’s lightweight division. Diaz would take four fights at welterweight in the midst of that run, going 2-2 in that time frame. The two losses at welterweight would come to contenders Dong Hyun Kim and Rory MacDonald.
