The new FOX Sports 1 will debut this summer, and Dana White says the UFC’s first card on the channel will be a crowd pleaser, and not just for the Boston fans in attendance on August 17th.
While speaking at a media event this week to promote tomorrow’s UFC 159 card in Newark, White promised that he is going to put “a ridiculous card together for that fight” and that “it’s going to be the best television card we’ve ever done” (quote via MMA Weekly.com).
Now, unfortunately the promoter couldn’t offer any details as to why the event will be so memorable, since no fights are finalized. White noted, however, that he wants to provide FOX with a stacked card as they build the new sports network. Just remember, he did use the word “ridiculous.”
Earlier in the week there was speculation that a bout between welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre and Johny Hendricks might be targeted for the event, but White may not want to throw his top PPV draw on a free card.
According to MMA Weekly.com, however, White did say that the promotion will take a “big hit on the chin”, in terms of PPV revenue, due to the talent that will be on the FOX Sports 1 card. Let the finger crossing begin.
