Bisping Defeats Belcher via Technical Decision

A middleweight grudge match did not live up to the hype tonight in Newark. Belcher got off on the wrong foot by being forced to cut his customary and previously approved ankle wraps. Belcher never looked comfortable in the bout, while Bisping looked more and more relaxed as the fight wore on. Bisping’s striking and takedown defense kept him in control of the fight and Belcher was unable to find his range with his strikes.

The bout came to a close in a bit of controversy, as a nasty accidental eye-poke by Bisping ended the night of Belcher. The thumb of Bisping literally cut the surgically repaired eye of Belcher and sent him down to the canvas in a heap. Herb Dean was forced to call a stop to the bout with Belcher bleeding from his eye, but since the foul was accidental and occurred after the midpoint of the fight, Bisping was awarded the unanimous technical decision.

Rd. 1- Herb Dean is our referee tonight. Legkick by Bisping is partially checked. Left highkick by Belcher is checked. Brief stoppage for a groin kick and we’re back. Nice combo by Belcher and his kick is partially caught. Legkick by Bisping and he lands a body kick as well. Bisping is doing a good job of cutting the cage so far. Belcher with some fancy footwork in the cage so far. Nice overhand right by Bisping lands. Big punch by Belcher backs up Bisping. Bisping with a legkick and we have brief stoppage as Belcher catches Bisping with an eye-poke. Belcher slips on a kick and his missing ankle wraps seem to be hurting him here. Big right by by Bisping stuffs a Belcher takedown attempt. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Bisping but it is close.

Rd 2- More movement by each early on but Bisping is starting to find his range with a mix of kicks and punches. Great counter combo by Bisping off a Belcher miss. Bisping with another hard combination off a Belcher miss. Belcher is grimacing each time he throws a kick. Hard rights by both fighters but Bisping with another wicked combo. Nice left by Bisping here too. Bisping stuffs a takedown but eats a hard left and right by Belcher. Another big shot by Belcher but Bisping with a hard combo to end the round. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Bisping (20-18)

Rd. 3- Urgency to start the round by Belcher but Bisping with nice shots to shut him down. Bisping backs him up with another combination that lands. Belcher lookes out-gunned and tired in the third, he’s winding up and Bisping is picking him apart. Hard rights by Bisping. Another combo by Bisping with 90-seconds left. Belcher tries a takedown but he has no drive on it  and Bisping defends easily. Huge combo by Bisping. Oh nasty eye-poke to Belcher’s eye and his surgically repaired eye is literally cut, fight’s over. Technical decision upcoming but it should be 30-27 Bisping.
