Jones Crushes Sonnen, Suffers Gruesome Toe Injury
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones wanted to prove a point when he took on the boisterous Chael Sonnen. Jones shocked Sonnen by utilizing Sonnen’s own style to take control of the fight. Jones would take Chael down multiple times before landing a brutal knee to the body on the downed Sonnen. Jones quickly pounced and began to tee off on Sonnen before the referee stepped in. The stoppage may have been early, but it was clear that Jones was in total control.
The great irony of this fight is that had Sonnen survived for thirty seconds he would have become the champion by default after Jones suffered a gruesome compound fracture of his big toe (WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGE) while posturing up for ground-and-pound. Jones did not realize he was hurt until his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. The champ did the interview but was clearly in severe pain while doing the interview. Jones has now won nine straight fights while Sonnen has lost his last two.
Sonnen graciously admitted defeat and also stated that he would need to reevaluate his career after tonight’s loss.
