The Ultimate Fighting Championship has added one of the top welterweights not currently signed to a big stage promotion, as according to a report from MMA Junkie.com, Brandon Thatch has signed a multi-fight contract with the company. No details as to when the Colorado fighter will make his Octagon debut were available.
The 27 year-old Thatch is currently riding an eight fight win streak, which includes wins over Chidi Njokuani, Martin Grandmont and most recently Mike Rhodes. Thatch, who currently trains out of the Grudge Training Center, holds a record of 9-1.
In a story by MMA Weekly in March, UFC welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre revealed that he brought Thatch in to help him prepare for his UFC 154 bout with Carlos Condit last November, and had nothing but praise for the fighter. When asked about Thatch’s UFC prospects, prior to fighting the aforementioned Rhodes, GSP stated:
“I believe Brandon Thatch could be in the UFC right now and I’m pretty sure he’s going to prove it to everyone in his fight (Friday) night.”
Thatch made his pro debut in 2008, and since then has fought for organizations like Ring of Fire, Resurrection Fighting Alliance and Instinct MMA.
