The World Series of Fighting (WSOF) will be crowning their inaugural middleweight champion by hosting a four-man tournament. MMAFighting first reported the story, with MMAFrenzy confirming the news with sources close to the situation. A formal announcement of the move is expected to come in the next few weeks.
Making up the tournament will be TUF 7’s Jesse Taylor, former MFC champion Elvis Mutapcic, Dave Branch, and Danillo Villefort. No match-ups have been set at this time but the first semifinal is set to happen August 10 at WSOF 4 and the second is expected to take place at WSOF 5 sometime this fall.
The respective winners will then likely meet at an unnamed event this December.
The WSOF returns to action this June for their third show. The card will mark the promotional debut of former UFC welterweight contender Jon Fitch as he takes on Josh Burkman.
