Last week Chael Sonnen sent the MMA world into a panicked frenzy, again, after he extended Wanderlei Silva a 24 hour deadline to accept his call for a bout with the legendary fighter. Not long after, it appeared as though–stress the word “appeared”–that Silva had accepted the fight, but since then, it’s been kind of quiet. Yes, too quiet.
Well, on the latest edition of FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight“ program, Ariel Helwani revealed that according to Silva, he was unaware of any deadline. In addition, “The Axe Murderer” relayed that he has not been approached by the UFC regarding the proposed all-star bout. Despite all this, Silva threw this verbal gem at Sonnen (via Helwani):
“Jon Jones and Anderson (Silva) have been too nice to Chael. I want to suck his blood. I want to smell it. Not just fight. Not just fight. I want to hurt him. Chael is a joke, man. He’s going to be second forever. He’s never going to be first.”
So, does this mean that Sonnen and Silva is still in the works? Well, according to Sonnen, he’s already moved on, and Silva’s vampiric threats evidently haven’t changed his mind. Sonnen responded to Silva in classic fashion by stating:
“I think the real breaking news there is that Wanderlei Silva put together a coherent sentence that somebody understood. But I can assure you, Wanderlei, I will not be signing a contract for you to suck on any part of me. I suggest you go to a bath and find yourself.”
While Sonnen may claim he’s looking elsewhere now for his next opponent, and perhaps the UFC has inquired about him fighting someone else, one would think this bout is too good for the promotion to pass up.
