UFC interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao is officially out of the UFC 161 main event. News broke about Barao’s injury this past Saturday during the UFC on FX 8 broadcast but his removal became official following a doctor’s visit this past Monday. MMAJunkie first reported the news via twitter.

No word yet on what the promotion will do with challenger Eddie Wineland as of this post.
UFC 161 takes place June 15 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The card is currently set to be co-headlined by a pair of light heavyweight battles pitting Rashad Evans vs. Dan Henderson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua 2 but either fight could be promoted to main event status.
