Former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett is returning to the promotion after an eleven-year absence. MMAJunkie announced the heavyweight had landed a multi-fight deal late Tuesday evening.
No debut has been set at this time but an official announcement is expected soon.
Barnett last fought for the promotion at UFC 36 in March 2002, where he defeated Randy Couture for the UFC heavyweight title. “The War Master” was then stripped of his title after failing a post-fight drug test and he subsequently left the promotion.
The Erik Paulson trainee earned his way back to the Octagon by going 9-1, including his recent 3-1 Strikeforce run, since 2008, with the lone loss coming to Daniel Cormier in the Strikeforce: Grand Prix Final.
