UFC on FX 8 may have featured a compelling middleweight bout between star Vitor Belfort and former Strikeforce champ Luke Rockhold, but it looks like the card pulled what most FX broadcasts have been in terms of ratings. Remember, no one had any idea before the bout that Belfort was going to finish it with a spinning heel kick…
According to a report from MMA Fighting.com’s Dave Meltzer, who has been covering MMA television ratings for years, the UFC on FX 8 broadcast drew an average of 1.3 million viewers. That’s what the previous seven, primetime cards have drawn on average for FX.
Belfort’s previous fight with Michael Bisping drew 1.86 million viewers on average. Considering Bisping is a much more familiar name with mainstream fans than Rockhold, due to his extensive run with the UFC and his previous stints on “The Ultimate Fighter”, it’s not surprising that UFC on FX 7 drew better than last weekend’s show.
Still, at the end of the day, FX cards are consistently drawing over one million viewers. It will be interesting to see what UFC on FS 1 draws, considering Dana White’s big plans for the event and today’s addition of Alistair Overeem vs. Travis Browne.
