UFC heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira appears to have dodged a bullet in Fortaleza, Brazil, as he avoided serious injury in his submission loss to Fabricio Werdum this past Saturday.
“Minotauro” found himself in a bit of trouble at UFC on FUEL TV 10 when Werdum caught him in a tough armbar attack that also pinned his free arm, which forced him to submit verbally. Immediately after the submission, there were concerns about the 37-year-old’s health but it appears he managed to avoid serious injury according to coach Luiz Dorea, who tweeted (in Portuguese):
“Our champion @Minotauromma already did an X-ray, and thank God, did not fracture (his arm) and is already out of the hospital”
The elite BJJ instructor has struggled with injuries the last few years and has now lost two of his last three fights by submission. While Nogueira put off talks of retirement prior to the fight, it is obvious that time is catching up to the MMA legend.
