Shields Edges Woodley

Jake Shields derailed Tyron Woodley with trademark frustrating style. While Woodley held the power advantage and an edge in the striking game, Shields utilized cage control to grind his way to a decision victory. The victory gives Shields a victory in his first fight back at welterweight and drops Woodley to 1-1 in the Octagon.

Krause Submits Stout

Our first finish of the night saw James Krause return to Zuffa with a submission finish over Canadian favorite Sam Stout. The two battled in out in a really tough fight over three rounds of well-rounded action. The bout hinged on Stout’s fateful decision to try and seal a decision victory late in the fight as Krause locked up a deep guillotine choke. Stout would attempt to hold out until the bell, but was forced to relent to the choke. The victory was Krause’s eighth in a row and first in the Octagon.

Pierson Survies late rush from Robertson

Sean Pierson and Kenny Robertson kept the decisions coming with another hard fought three round battle in the cage. After dropping the first two rounds, Robertson landed the most devastating strike of the fight with a brutal shot that had Pierson on the ground.

Robertson would try to finish with both strikes and submission attempts but Pierson managed to hold on. The round was arguably a 10-8 performance for Robertson, but only one judge saw it that way and the bout ended as a majority draw for Pierson.

Delorme Out-Grapples Figueroa

Winnipeg’s own Roland Delorme won a decision over Edwin Figueroa in a thrilling affair to open the FX card. While Figueroa held the striking and power advantages, the story of tonight’s fight was Delorme’s ground assault. Delorme and Figueroa would engage in long submission and position battles that Delorme managed to get the better of to net the decision win. The victory keeps Delorme technically unbeaten in the Octagon, while Figueroa drops his second exciting fight in a row tonight.
