Bellator Trims ‘Summer Series,’ Sets Bellator 98

Nick Kirk

Bellator MMA has trimmed their usual three-event “Summer Series” to two after officially announcing Bellator 98 for September 7. The card will serve as the promotion’s Season 9 premiere. Bellator officials announced the move last week.

Headlining the September bout will be a hard-hitting bout between Bellator middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko and Season 8 tournament champion Doug Marshall. Shlemenko won the vacated belt with an explosive knockout of Maiquel Falcão at Bellator 88. “Rhino” Marshall booked his title shot by defeating Brett Cooper in the Season 8 tournament final at Bellator 95.

Also on the Bellator 98 fight card will be former champion Joe Warren, as he takes on bantamweight Nick Kirk. The card will also feature the Fight Master: Bellator MMA final and the opening round of the Season 9 middleweight tournament. The card will take place at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut on September 7.
