UFC interim bantamweight champion Renan Barão will be defending his belt against Eddie Wineland in the UFC 165 co-main event. The two fighters were originally supposed to meet at UFC 161 but the Brazilian was forced off the card with a foot injury. MMAJunkie first reported the bout earlier this evening.
Barão was hoping to unify the bantamweight crown in his next fight but will again have to wait with Cruz still on the shelf. Barão was recently in action at UFC on FUEL TV 7, where he defeated Michael McDonald in London, England. The Brazilian has not tasted defeat since his MMA debut and rides a 31-fight unbeaten streak into Winnipeg.
Eddie Wineland comes into this bout riding a two-fight win-streak. The former WEC bantamweight champion was last in action at UFC 155, where he defeated Brad Pickett via split decision in an exciting bout.
UFC 165 will take place Septemeber 21 and will mark the fourth time the UFC has traveled to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The card is set to be headlined by a UFC light heavyweight title fight featuring champion Jon Jones taking on Alexander Gustafsson. More bouts are expected to be announced in the upcoming weeks.
