MMAFrenzy’s live coverage of the UFC 162 pay-per-view concludes with our recap of tonight’s main event between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman. Weidman took advantage of Silva’s reckless head games and ended the now former champion’s seven-year reign.
Weidman Floors Silva, Attains Middleweight Crown
It had to end sometime, but few saw it ending like this. Chris Weidman became the new middleweight champion tonight by being the first person to knockout Anderson Silva. Silva fought extremely reckless tonight and often begged Weidman to hit him. The Brazilian would regret that decision however, as Weidman finally connected flush on a hook that removed the champion from his senses and seemed to crash the internet at the same time.
The obviously elated Weidman was more than willing to give a rematch to Anderson, but the now former champion insisted that he was through with fighting for titles. While Silva said he is not retiring, he was vague on his future. The two fighters met in the cage after the post-fight interviews where both were gracious in their respective sides of tonight’s historic fight.
Weidman is now 10-0, and unless the UFC can get Silva to change his mind, will be looking to defend his title against someone like Vitor Belfort.
