The UFC made five fighters $50,000 richer as the awarded new UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman, Dennis Siver, Cub Swanson, Frankie Edgar, and Charles Oliveira fight night bonuses for their efforts in the Octagon. The UFC announced the bonuses at the UFC 162 post-fight press conference.
Weidman Earns $50K for Historic Knockout Victory
New UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman’s gambles are turning up aces right now as he picks up “Knockout of the Night” for his historic knockout of Anderson Silva. Weidman took advantage of Silva’s lowered guard and put away the Brazilian with a beautiful hook that ended the long-time champion’s nearly seven-year title reign. The bonus is Weidman’s second consecutive “KOTN” and third bonus overall.
Swanson and Siver earn “Fight of the Night”
Cub Swanson and Dennis Siver decided to lay it all on the line tonight in Las Vegas and it earned them “Fight of the Night.” The two fighters battled back and forth over three rounds but in the end it was Siver who would end up going out on his shield tonight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena as Swanson was able to put him away. The bonus was Siver’s sixth in the UFC and Swanson’s third (sixth including WEC).
Edgar and Oliveira also earn “Fight of the Night”
In the least surprising event of the night, Frankie Edgar and Charles Oliveira delivered an exciting three-round war. While Edgar won a unanimous decision, Oliveira more than held his own with the former lightweight champion and made the fight a very uneasy affair for the New Jersey native. The bonus was Edgar’s eighth in Octagon and Oliveira’s fifth.
