Fight Master: Bellator MMA Episode 3 Recap

Mike Bronzoulllis

Fight Master: Bellator MMA launches its first season on Spike TV. The show will follow 32 welterweights as they vie for $100,000 and a shot in an upcoming Bellator tournament. MMAFrenzy will have continuing coverage of the burgeoning and innovative reality show until the show wraps up at the Bellator Season 9 premiere this September.

Ismael Gonzalez vs. Marcus Aurelio is our first fight. Gonzalez and Aurelio are both exciting strikers and start quick. Gonzalez catches the Brazilian with a front leg side kick to the ribs and drops him. Quick follow up and the fight is over.

Gonzalez has a tough choice ahead for a coach. Couture and Warren jump at a chance to land the talented striker, while Jackson tells him he would be better off with one of the other coaches because they can improve his wrestling. Shamrock makes a late play, but it is all for not as the fighter chooses to complete Joe Warren’s Rino Sport team.

Andy Uhrich and Dom O’Grady are up next. Uhrich takes control late with grappling in the first and tries hard to get the fight there again in the second but gets rocked. Uhrich recovers late and steal the rest of the round with his ground-and-pound. Uhrich wins 20-18 but is eliminated from the competition due to a bad cut. Coaches commend him on his performance but he is done.

Brian Travers vs. Artaneus Young is up next. Young controls the first round with his far better striking but Travers rallies hard in the second as his opponent fades. Travers absolutely dominates the third round and wins 29-27 across the board.

Travers really wants a coach that will always be there. Jackson and Couture admit they will be in and out, while Shamrock is planning to be there the entire time. Travers is also looking for a coach to ride him the entire time, which is not Jackson’s style. Surprisingly, Travers picks Team Jackson.

Gareth Joseph vs. Mike Bronzoullis is up now. Joseph gets in trouble early but battles back in the first. Brozoullis dominates the second with power strikes and wrestling to pick up the decision victory.

Warren likes him, but his team is full. Shamrock does not like his style and tries to play him off on Couture. Couture does not mind it at all, as he likes him. Jackson advises him to go to a wrestling camp, and Bronzoullis chooses Team Couture.

Joe Riggs vs. Frank Carrillo is supposed to be next but Carrillo is knocked out due to a shoulder injury at the last second. New opponent will be a fighter who lost previously, Rob Mills. The commission allows it since he took little damage and Riggs accepts. Riggs tees off with huge knees and knocks Mills down. Fight stalls a bit as Riggs works him to side control and eventually takes his back. Mills is recovered and works to the top position but Riggs locks up a heel hook and taps him out.

Riggs’ former coach is just happy to see him win like he did. Jackson seems to really want him to join up, and Shamrock makes a play, but is clear he wanted to join Team Jackson from the start. Riggs completes Team Jackson’s lineup.

The show concludes with Team Shamrock with one slot left.

That’s the last pick of the episode, as more fighters will take to the cage on next week’s episode of Fight Master: Bellator MMA.
