Invicta FC kicked off their historic first all-WMMA pay-per-view with a solid lineup of fights tonight in Kansas City, Missouri. In the fourth PPV fight of the evening, Scottish phenom Joanne Calderwood stayed perfect after a stern test from Norma Center. In other action, Mizuki Inoue, Miriam Nakamoto, and Tecia Torres picked up big victories on tonight’s card.
Calderwood Defeats Center
Scotland’s Joanne Calderwood’s all-round game was tested tonight by Norma Center. Calderwood would pass with flying colors by showing a solid guard and all-round grappling game in a fight that often kept her notorious striking at bay. Calderwood is now 7-0 with the victory and will find herself firmly entrenched in the strawweight title picture.
Inoue Edges Hyatt
Mizuki Inoue was a heavy underdog when she faced fan favorite Bec Hyatt tonight in KC but it never deterred her in the cage. Inoue used creative striking in the clinch and strong grappling to pick up the first two rounds of tonight’s fight. Hyatt would rally in the third, but it would prove too little too late as Inoue would pick up the cards 29-28 across the board.
Nakamoto Blasts Yankovich
Miriam Nakamoto’s reputation as a ferocious striker was proven yet again tonight in her second Invicta FC 6 fight. There would be no controversy in this fight however, as she destroyed Duda Yankovich in impressive fashion tonight in KC. Nakamoto’s cool demeanor was evident no matter where the fight went as she battled out of a heelhook attempt and got the fight back to the standup. From that point it was all Nakamoto, as she teed off with brutal knees and strikes that dropped her opponent and forced the official to intervene. Nakamoto’s victory improved her to 1-0 (1 NC) in the promotion after her first victory was overturned due to an illegal knee.
Namajunas and Torres kick off PPV in Thrilling Fight
Rose Namajunas and Tecia Torres showed why they are two of Invicta FC’s growing stars in tonight’s PPV opener. Tecia’s power and submission defense was the story of the first two rounds, as she landed multiple combinations and avoided two flying armbars. The second armbar attack led to another armbar attempt by Namajunas that was dangerously close to being finished. Torres refused to relent, and it paid off as the lead she built allowed her fight more relaxed in the third.
While neither fighter ever really took her foot off the gas, Namajunas appeared to take the third thanks to solid ground control. In the end it was not enough however, as Torres improved to 3-0 with the victory.
