UFC president Dana White made it official today as he announced Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman II for December 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The UFC president made the announcement in an exclusive segment for ESPN’s Sportscenter.
UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman snapped Silva’s seven-year reign atop the UFC middleweight division last week at UFC 162. While Silva was initially reluctant to sign on for a rematch, UFC president Dana White worked hard to secure the event for this December. In a pre-recorded segment for the announcement, Silva told fans that “I’m back.”
Despite earlier statements by White that the move would displace the rematch between UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate to a later date, the promotion will instead keep the meeting of TUF 18 coaches as the evening’s co-main event.
