If you’ve been following the “conversation” that Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald have been having on Twitter, prior to their tilt at UFC on FOX 8 on July 27th, you know that things have gotten a little heated between the two welterweight contenders. A few weeks back, MacDonald warned Ellenberger that their might be repercussions for the fighter’s taunting, before the latter proceeded to give MacDonald a quick grammar lesson.
More recently, Ellenberger continued the verbal warfare by tweeting “Rory: Welcome to “Chez’ Ellenberger”. Tonight’s special is CANVAS SANDWICHES served FACE DOWN. Bon’ appetit’!” So what does MacDonald this of all this? Whose ice cold disposition at times has prompted some fans to say MacDonald should think about changing his nickname from “Ares” to “Canadian Psycho” (in reference to the famous novel and film “American Psycho”-except MacDonald is Canadian).
While speaking to MMA Junkie.com recently, the 23 year-old MacDonald stated:
“He chose that route, and really, it doesn’t make a difference to me. I’m going in there to win a fight, regardless of what attitude he brings in there.”
“My last opponent had some stuff to say, too,” MacDonald said. “At the end of the day, it’s just bickering. The great thing about our job is that we get to solve our problems because we get locked in a cage, and they tell us to fight.”
The rising star, who is coming off a one side unanimous decision win over BJ Penn last December, also added that: “Sometimes, you just want to hurt someone and devastate their lives fast. But I only react to how I’m feeling that night.” Based off what Ellenberger’s been saying, one would think MacDonald may be looking to “hurt someone” when they meet in Seattle.
Regardless of what each man truly thinks of the other, it’s a massively important fight, as MacDonald currently sits at #3 in the division and Ellenberger is ranked #4. Definitely a must see tilt.
