Not only has TJ Grant lost his chance to fight lightweight Benson Henderson at UFC 164 due to a concussion, but the surging lightweight might not fight for the title when he returns to action. Grant’s life has been seriously affected by one rolling session.
The lightweight contender appeared on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, and revealed that he’s not guaranteed a title shot when he’s ready to come back (hopefully in November). If Grant doesn’t fight for the title, then a title shot eliminator is likely, and the Canadian reportedly said he would fight Josh Thomson if asked.
Of course, Grant is hoping that he’ll be tapped for a title shot, but when asked if he’s cheering for Henderson or Anthony Pettis (whose campaign to have Grant removed from the bout he recently described as “dirty”), the noted finisher stated:
“I’m not rooting for anyone,” he said. “Honestly, I don’t really care. I hope they have a good fight, they beat each other up good. I hope the winner doesn’t get injured though, because I want to fight him.”
Really, Grant facing either one of those guys would make for an intriguing fight. As would Grant-Thomson…
UFC 164 will take place on August 31st at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
