It appears Roy Nelson’s free agency period will be a lot shorter than expected. As the newly resigned “Big Country” is slated to face off with Daniel Cormier in the UFC 166 co-main event. The UFC confirmed the fall bout after The Houston Chronicle first announced the bout.
The long-gestating bout has lost a little bit of its luster after Nelson was thoroughly dominated by Stipe Miocic at UFC 161, but should provide an entertaining addition to the UFC 166 fight card. Cormier, who is still working his way down to light heavyweight, made a successful UFC debut by controlling former UFC champion Frank Mir at UFC on FOX 7. The former Olympic wrestler is currently 12-0 in his MMA career.
UFC 166 is headlined by the third fight between UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. The fight card will take place October 19 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. More bouts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
