The UFC on FOX 8 FX preliminary card concluded with a hard-hitting trio of fights. In the FX feature fight, Jorge Masvidal defeated Michael Chiesa with a solid display of MMA. In other action, Danny Castillo and Melvin Guillard picked up victories on the FX card.
Masvidal Taps Chiesa
Hometown fighter Michael Chiesa would experience a loss for the first time tonight at the KeyArena. While he looked fantastic early on, Chiesa’s inexperience started to show through as Jorge Masvidal started to find his range. Masvidal would end the fight with less than a second on the clock in the second round. The victory is Masvidal’s third straight victory.
Castillo Edges Means
Despite missing weight by four pounds on Friday, Tim Means gave Danny Castillo a stern test on tonight’s undercard. While Means was effective and accurate in the striking department, Castillo was able to secure the takedown whenever he needed to. That was likely the deciding fact in the fight, as Castillo picked up his second straight victory.
Guillard Smashes Danzig
Melvin Guillard bounced back from two straight losses tonight by violently defeating Mac Danzig tonight in Seattle. Guillard showed considerable patience in the first round by setting things up with his jab. In the second round, Guillard would trigger the end-game of the fight with a wicked counter-jab that caught Danzig flush. Guillard would quickly follow up to gain the victory, improving to 2-4 in his last six.
