UFC 166: Rivera vs. Roop set for Houston

George Roop

An intriguing bantamweight bout between Francisco Rivera and George Roop is headed to Houston, Texas for UFC 166. The bout will likely land on the UFC 166 Facebook preliminary card. UFC officials announced the pairing over the weekend.

Both fighters head into the fight coming off victories in their previous outings. Roop pulled off an upset of former WEC champion Brian Bowles in his last fight at UFC 160. The bout was also notable for Bowles failed drug test.

Francisco Rivera bounced back from a drug suspension, attributed to an energy drink, by defeating Edwin Figueroa at UFC 156. Rivera has not lost since getting submitted by Reuben Duran in his UFC debut.

UFC 166 is headlined by the third fight between UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. A bout between Daniel Cormier and Roy Nelson will co-headline the billing. The fight card will take place October 19 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. More bouts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
