Although both Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier have upcoming bouts scheduled, the two continue to exchange words through the media, and not the kind that can easily be misconstrued. In other words, this rivalry seems to be just getting started.
In case you missed, last week at a UFC World Tour event, Jones was asked about Cormier, and his recent announcement that he plans to call for an immediate title shot at 205 after he fights Roy Nelson at UFC 166. Cormier’s whole agenda evidently doesn’t sit well with Jones, as he proceeded to blast the fighter for his supposed lack of Twitter followers, cardio and reach.
Naturally, the comments caught up with Cormier (we here at the media love to do that kind of thing) and the decorated wrestler had this to say about Jones on the post UFC 163, FUEL TV show.
“When I hear his quote, it’s like a 16-year old girl. Jon Jones, grow up bud, we’re going to fight regardless of how you feel. And when we do and I’m cutting the line and you might as well pull the guard because I’m taking you down.”
It could be a fascinating fight, definitely, but lots has to happen first before it becomes a reality. First off, Jones will take on Gustafsson at UFC 165 on September 21st, and Cormier will battle the aforementioned Nelson on October 19th. This past weekend the UFC also announced that Glover Teixeira is next in line for a title shot at 205, if he can score an impressive win over Ryan Bader on September 4th.
