Although the event has not been officially announced, it looks like UFC Fight Night 29 could feature a clash between two of the promotion’s rising welterweights.
According to a report from MMA Fighting.com, Erick Silva’s coach Josuel Distak, is reporting that Erick Silva will fight Dong Hyun Kim at the event, which is expected to take place October 9th somewhere in Brazil. The exact venue and location have not been determined yet. Distak was quoted telling MMA Fighting:
“Erick Silva will fight again in October, against that guy that defeated Paulo Thiago,” said Distak. “It’s a tough fight, (Kim) will try to do what (Jon) Fitch did to Erick, but Erick is way better now. He had weight issues before that fight, but he no longer has that problem.”
If you recall, “The Stun Gun” scored a unanimous decision win over Thiago last November, before adding another UD vitory over Siyar Bahadurzada to his resume in March. Kim is 3-2 in his last five fights, with losses coming against Demia Maia and Carlos Condit.
Silva, meanwhile, scored an impressive, armbar submission win over Jason High in June at UFC on FUEL TV 10. As Distak referred too, prior to that Silva was handed a UD defeat by Jon Fitch. The welterweight’s only other UFC loss came via disqualification, when Silva struck Carlo Prater with punches to the back of the head at UFC 142 last January.
So, that’s a pretty intriguing match-up and a great way to get the card rolling for UFC Fight Night 29, if indeed, everything falls into place.
