In an odd bit of matchmaking, UFC president Dana White has apparently offered Nick Diaz a fight with Lyoto Machida. The UFC frontman talked about the prospective bout at a special UFC Fight Night 26 Q&A at Boston’s Barrio Cantina.
“I talked to Diaz today, and I made him an offer, so we’ll see what happens,” White said. “He had been talking about going to 185 pounds. Machida has been talking about going to 185 pounds. So we wanted to see if he wanted to fight Machida at 185.”
While the bout seems a horrible matchup considering each fighter’s style, it seems to indicate where the two fighters are currently at in the UFC. Machida had been linked to a possible bout with Vitor Belfort, but White intimated that Belfort had nixed the offer. White did not indicate if Diaz had interest in the bout or when it would possibly occur.
