Leg lock specialist Rousimar Palhares is making the drop to welterweight for his next fight against the always tough Mike Pierce at UFC Fight Night 29 in Brazil. The bout’s placement on the card is currently unknown but it will likely be part of the FOX Sports 1 main card. UFC officials confirmed the pairing today after an initial report from Brazilian site Lancet.
Palhares will be making the drop after a two-fight losing streak at middleweight. The Brazilian has been out of action since his December loss to Hector Lombard after testing for elevated levels of testosterone at UFC on FX 8. The fighter comes off his nine-month layoff to take on Mike Pierce.
Pierce comes into the bout riding a four-fight win streak and looking to elevate himself in the tough welterweight division. The Portland, Oregon native was last in action against David Mitchell at UFC 162, a fight he won by TKO in the second round.
UFC Fight Night 29 is set for October 9 at Jose Correa Arena in Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil. The Brazilian incursion will be headlined by a five-round welterweight pairing between talented grapplers Jake Sields and Demian Maia. The main card will air live via FOX Sports 1, with the prelims airing via Facebook.
