UFC Fight Night 31 (aka UFC Fight for the Troops 3) will see battle of former TUF champions as Michael Chiesa takes on United States Army Ranger Colton Smith. UFC officials announced the move today via FOX Sports.
The bout sees Smith drop from welterweight to lightweight for the November 6 bout. The Ultimate Fighter 16 champion makes the move after dropping his first fight since winning the show by losing to Robert Whittaker at UFC 160.
Michael Chiesa will head into the fight after dropping the first fight of his career to Jorge Masvidal at UFC on FOX 8. The Ultimate Fighter 15 champion had previously won all nine of his professional fights before being finished by Masvidal in Seattle.
Headlining UFC Fight Night 31 will be a middleweight matchup between Lyoto Machida and United States Army Special Forces sniper Tim Kennedy. The fight card will air live on November 6 via FOX Sports 1, with the preliminary card likely landing on Facebook.
