The UFC awarded four fighters $50,000 bonuses for their actions tonight at UFC Fight Night 27. Main event fighters Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann would get the nod for their four round battle, while preliminary fighters Zak Cummings and Brandon Thatch would also receive bonuses for their efforts. UFC president Dana White announced the bonuses on FOX Sports Live following tonight’s fights.
Condit and Kampmann Earn “Fight of the Night”
Former UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit was out to settle a score tonight and it earned him some added cash for his efforts against Martin Kampmann. While Kampmann looked strong early, Condit’s gas tank was simply better and he seized control of the fight and never let go before finishing in the fourth. The bonus was Condit’s sixth in the UFC and his third “Fight of the Night” in a row. Tonight’s bonus was Kampmann’s fifth in the Octagon.
Thatch Scores “Knockout of the Night” in Debut
Former RFA fighter Brandon Thatch made a splash in his UFC debut tonight in Indy. Thatch connected early in his fight with Justin Edwards and he poured it on until the referee was forced to halt the action. Thatch will look to keep the momentum going as he moves forward in the UFC.
Cummings Lands “Submission of the Night”
The saying goes “good things come to those who wait,” and Zak Cummings certainly earned a break after being sidelined for months due to torn hamstring. The Ultimate Fighter 17 alum picked up “Submission of the Night” with his slick D’arce choke finish beating out several game opponents for the $50K prize. The victory not only marked a successful UFC debut but welterweight debut for the former light heavyweight.
