Barnett Floors Mir

Josh Barnett spent years outside of the UFC in exile following his dubious past and tonight he made a triumphant return against Frank Mir. “The Warmaster” absorbed some wicked shots early before seizing control along the cage. Barnett went to work with some nasty knees and elbow before setting up Mir  to be finished with a solid tie-up that lead to a devastating knee.

Mir dropped awkwardly and referee Rob Hines quickly intervened much to the dismay of Mir. While Mir was clearly upset, replay showed him to be out before coming too when he hit the canvas. In the post-fight interview Barnett stated he would do the fight again if a rematch was asked for. Barnett is now 5-1 all-time in the UFC, but this was his first victory in the Octagon since defeating Randy Couture at UFC 36.

Rd. 1- Rob Hines is our referee tonight. No touch of gloves and these men are going at it, wow. Both are landing big strikes but Mir seems to have the advantage early. Uppercuts from Barnett in the clinch now. Nasty clinch shots from Barnett here and he lands a big elbow over-the-top. More knees and punches by Barnett. Wicked knee by Barnett drops Mir awkwardly and referee Rob Hines jumps in a little too early and Mir is livid.

Josh Barnett def. Frank Mir via knockout (knee) at 1:56 of Round 1
