Pettis Taps Henderson for Title and “Submission of the Night”
Newly crowned UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis not only picked up the belt but also the “Submission of the Night” for his arm bar victory over Benson Henderson tonight in Milwaukee. Pettis submitted Henderson late in the first round of their title with a slick arm bar attack from the guard. The bonus was Pettis’s third in the UFC and his sixth including the WEC, the featherweight champ was also awarded a 2014 Harley-Davidson for his victory.
Mendes Levels Guida for “KO of the Night”
Former UFC featherweight number one contender Chad Mendes impressed tonight with his knockout of Clay Guida at the Bradley Center. Mendes stayed patient over the course of three rounds before seizing his opportunity to put away “The Carpenter” with a barrage of strikes for Guida’s first KO/TKO loss ever. The bonus was surprisingly Mendes’s first in the UFC despite four straight knockout victories.
Lim and Krauss Awarded “Fight of the Night”
The award for “Fight of the Night” was doled out to a slugfest between Hyun Gyu Lim and Pascal Krauss on tonight’s FOX Sports 1 preliminary card. Lim connected early in the bout and looked to put away the German but Krauss hung on and delivered several hard blows of his own before being put away by the Korean fighter. The bonus was Lim’s first and Krauss’s second in the UFC.
