UFC president Dana White set at least one Nova Scotian’s mind at ease today by stating that T.J. Grant will still receive his earned title shot when champion Anthony Pettis returns to action. There had been some doubt cast by Pettis on the bout after he called out UFC featherweight champion José Aldo in his UFC 164 post-fight interview. White’s comments were first reported by Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole.

Grant gained his title shot by hammering Grey Maynard at UFC 160 this past May. The Canadian fighter was originally supposed to face then-champion Benson Henderson at UFC 164, but a concussion knocked him off the card and saw Pettis step in.
“Showtime” made the most of the opportunity by defeating Henderson via a first round armbar but injured his knee during the bout. The champ had an MRI done on the knee today but the results were apparently inconclusive according to the aforementioned tweet.
