After failing to lock up a title shot at UFC 160 in May, Mark Hunt will likely return to the Octagon in December to fight top five ranked heavyweight “Bigfoot” Silva.
According to multiple reports, after the bout was first reported by Combate.com, Hunt and Silva have verbally agreed to fight on December 7th at a UFC Fight Night card in Brisbane, Australia.
Hunt (9-8) had won four straight fights prior to facing Junior dos Santos at UFC 160, which included stoppage wins over Chris Tuchscherer, Cheick Kongo and Stefan Struve. The 39 year-old vet’s memorable run came to an end, however, after dos Santos floored him with a spinning hook kick in round three. After the bout, Hunt was forced to battle a serious staph infection, which required extensive treatments.
Silva (18-5) is also looking to rebound from a loss he suffered at UFC 160, as the ATT fighter was stopped by champion Cain Velasquez at the May 25th event. “Bigfoot” had worked his way back into a rematch with Velasquez thanks to stoppage wins over Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem. Silva currently sits at #4 in the promotion’s heavyweight division.Hunt versus Silva: sounds like a decent plan.
