The UFC’s 20th anniversary card has added a light heavyweight battle pitting Rashad Evans against Chael Sonnen. The bout will serve as the UFC 167 co-main event. The UFC officially announced bout earlier today.
The two light heavyweights both come into the bout looking to improve to 2-1 in 2013 with a victory. Sonnen, who lost to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at UFC 159, recently got back in the win column at UFC Fight Night 26 by defeating Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in Boston. Evans recovered from an ugly loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 156 by edging MMA legend Dan Henderson in the UFC 161 main event.
UFC 167 will be headlined by a UFC welterweight title fight between champion Georges St-Pierre and Johnny Hendricks. The billing will mark the 20th anniversary of UFC 1, which took place November 12 at the since demolished McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, Colorado. More bouts are expected to be announced soon for the UFC’s 2o-year anniversary card.
