Teixeira Survives Scare, Stops Bader

Glover Teixeira was happy to get the victory tonight a mere three hours from where he grew up, but he was not happy with the performance that led to his hand being raised. Teixiera’s hand placement was a bit sloppy tonight and it left him vulnerable to counters from opponent Ryan Bader. The former Arizona State Sun Devil would twice be able to find the openings but was not able to finish either time.

The fight hinged on the second of the two knockdowns by Bader as he looked to finish wildly. That wild attack would cost him dearly however as Teixeira managed to stand and deliver a right hook to left hook combination that floored Bader. Teixeira would quickly put a bow on the fight with a series of follow-up blows that halted Bader’s night.

Despite getting the victory, Teixeira was unhappy with his performance and made it known that he felt this was a wake-up call for him as he works for a title shot.

Rd. 1- Touch of gloves gets us started. Bader immediately tries a single but is stuffed. A left clips Teixeira and he looks for a takedown and Bader jumps to a guillotine. Bader doesn’t have however and is forced to use the cage to escape. Teixeira with a takedown of his own now but he cannot keep Bader down. Bader throws a head kick after they center and Glover laughs it off. Bader catches Glover and he pounces at Teixeira along the cage but then he is drilled by a right hook to a short left by Teixeira. Bader is flattened by the punch and Glover quickly pounces for the finish. A few hard hammerfists and Herb Dean calls a stop to the fight. Teixeira is clearly angered by his sloppy performance despite the victory.

Glover Teixeira def. Ryan Bader via TKO (strikes) at 2:55 of Round 1
