UFC 167 has added a heavyweight clash between Frank Mir and Alistair Overeem to the promotion’s 20th anniversary card. News of the move was first announced by the Las Vegas Review Journal.
The bout will see two heavyweights in dire need of a victory following their August losses. Frank Mir was last in action at UFC 164, where he dropped a quick TKO to Josh Barnett for his third loss in a row. Alistair Overeem continued his disappointing UFC run at UFC Fight Night 26, where he suffered a brutal KO loss to Travis Browne.
UFC 167 will be headlined by a UFC welterweight title fight between champion Georges St-Pierre and Johnny Hendricks. The billing will mark the 20th anniversary of UFC 1, which took place November 12 at the since demolished McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, Colorado. More bouts are expected to be announced soon for the UFC’s 2o-year anniversary card.
