While Melvin Guillard has only come close to challenging for a title, “The Young Assassin” is always worth watching based on his knockout ability and aggression. Guillard started his UFC run out at 170 pounds and thus lost on TUF to the larger Josh Burkman but was able to slim down once the lightweight division was introduced. More than seven years later, he’s still rocking foes in highlight-reel fashion on a regular basis.
Last week the UFC whittled 32 competitors down to 16 in an elimination round on the Ultimate Fighter 18. Tonight, the first official semifinalist will be revealed when #1 picks Shayna Baszler and Julianna Pena collide in the cage. Though one woman will have her dreams put on hold as will all of the contestants at some point save for the four season finalists, that’s not to say they won’t go on to achieve great things in MMA. In reality, a number of fighters who were knocked out of the competition early came back strong and have since had solid runs under the UFC banner. (Photos by USA Today Sports Images)
