The Ultimate Fighter 19 will be coached by former UFC lightweight champions Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn when the show debuts in April of 2014. The two coaches will then square off next Summer and their third meeting will be a bit more intriguing as it will take place at featherweight. The surprising announcement was made on tonight’s edition of UFC Tonight.

The bout will be BJ Penn’s first bout at featherweight in his distinguished MMA career. UFC president Dana White revealed that the original plan was to have Edgar coach opposite Urijah Faber, but Edgar was unwilling to cut to bantamweight to make the bout happen. White said Penn was more than willing to make the bout happen, stating that the losses to Edgar had always bothered him.
TUF 19 will air on FOX Sports 1, which TUF 18 is currently airing on, and will feature middleweight and light heavyweight fighters. Tryouts for the show took place prior to UFC Fight Night 27 with a wide array of talent showing up.
